My Sloppy Joe Chuck Roast in the Slow Cooker is the 5th in my yearlong series “26 weeks of slow cooker meals” and it only takes 4 ingredients.

Sloppy Joe Chuck Roast in the Slow Cooker is a 4 ingredient slow cooker twist on the traditional sloppy joe sandwich that your family will love.

Okay so every kid loves Sloppy Joe’s and it is a frequent visitor to most families dinner rotation. Last week I was trying to figure out something for dinner. I had bought a couple of chuck roasts the other day and used one for my Black and Tan Chili.

I hadn’t taken anything out to cook for the night so when I was browsing the pantry I noticed I had 4 cans of Dei Fratelli Sloppy Joe sauce. So I decided to make this 4 ingredient Sloppy Joe Chuck Roast in the Slow Cooker.Sloppy Joe Chuck Roast in the Slow Cooker is a 4 ingredient slow cooker twist on the traditional sloppy joe sandwich that your family will love.

No offense to the more popular sauce but I really love Dei Fratelli‘s all natural sauces and tomatoes. My kids can’t get enough of their pizza sauce.  I grabbed the chuck roast out of the freezer and threw it in the microwave to partially defrost.

I grabbed a can of Dei Fratelli sloppy joe sauce, onion and 2 tablespoons of homemade dry onion soup mix. While the roast was defrosting, I chopped the onion and tossed them into the slow cooker.

I did not completely thaw my chuck roast for two reasons. 1st; partially frozen meat is easier and safer to slice. 2nd; slow cooking partially frozen meat is a trick to keep the meat from drying out, especially if your slow cooker will be cooking longer than the required cook time or if your slow cooker does not switch to a warm setting after a set amount of cooking time.

Disclosure: Just make sure your meat or poultry is cooked to a safe temperature. Check out my Crock Pot cooking tips and tricks page to see safe cooking temperatures.

Cut the roast into 4 chunks and trim off the fat. Add the chuck roast and dry onion soup mix to the onions, in the slow cooker. Stir to combine and then stir in the Dei Fratelli sloppy joe sauce. Cook on low for 6 hours. Remove the meat and shred it with two forks.

Return meat to slow cooker and cook for another 30 minutes until heated through. Serve on hoagie buns with cheese and pickles. Yum, and your kids will love it.
