Make my Snow Day Snow Cream if you want a great way to celebrate a snow day with the kids. A fun tasty treat made with fresh snow.
The kids had another day off from school today because of snow. At least this time we had some snow, not just the cold. We got off easy here in Northern Cincinnati. Fifty miles south, they received over 12 inches of new snow on top of 2-3 inches of rain. Location, Location, Location!
The girls were playing outside, so I decided to make them a treat. They asked for a frozen Coke, which I thought was odd, since it is very cold outside. So I decided to make them something colder. Go Figure! I have made snow ice cream in the past but it was a long time ago.
As I gathered the ingredients, not hard, since there is only five, the girls grabbed the snow. Milk (any type), sugar, vanilla, salt and SNOW.
I bet you have all of these in your house, unless you live in the deep south or far west and you are missing the snow. Lucky you! Hopefully this is our last snow day of the year. I am ready for spring, but at least the kids had one last treat from winter.
Enjoy and bring on the warm weather!!

- 1 cup milk any type (I used half and half
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar.
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract I use Rodelle
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 8 cups of CLEAN snow
- Toppings of your choice
- Gather snow by removing top layer and scooping up some fresh snow. Pack the snow in a large bowl.
- Add milk, sugar, vanilla, and salt. Mix all ingredients together, but do not over mix.
- Place in cups and add toppings of your choice. Serve immediately…it will melt quickly.
(Tip: Unfortunately you can not store snow cream, in the freezer, for later. It will turn solid.)
(I tried to make this with my electric ice cream maker. Didn't work well. It was hard on the motor so I ended up mixing the snow cream by hand.)

I missed the part about clearing the top layer to get to the clean snow underneath, and apparently that was an important detail! : )

I guess I should have highlighted that part in YELLOW :))

We’re supposed to get 12 inches of snow tomorrow… This is such a fun idea- I’m going to show your post to my kids! Thanks, Quinn. 🙂

Yeah the was a repost from a few years ago when we actually got snow. I am in the middle of a complete overhaul of the blog and going back and fixing old post. It looks like you guys are going to get hammered. How far out on the Island do you live? 12 inches + very strong winds. I am sure you have plenty of food. Be safe and enjoy your snow cream. :))
