Crock Pot Chicken Un-Fried Steak!

I know when you hear chicken fried steak the first thing that comes to mind is having a heart attack from all the fat. The second, if your get past the first, is the mess of frying the breaded steak.Dw4dwtx_fs-25Well this is my healthier version of chicken fried steak. In my version I bake the cube steak, in the oven, at high heat for 10 -15 minutes, to get a nice crisp coating. I then place the steaks in the crock pot with some onions and fat-free chicken gravy. The steaks stay crispy, moist and extremely tender. Serve with some egg noodles and biscuits and you are in business.Dw4dwtx_fs-38This Crock Pot Chicken Un-Fried Steak is incredibly simple with a little prep work the night before. Using cube steak this meal can feed a family of 5 for about 10 bucks. Hard to beat that for the price!Dw4dwtx900-22

These look great Quinn. I have some cube steaks that I need a recipe for. Might need to try! Plus I’m a crock pot addict so this is perfect.

So, as a Carolina girl, this speaks to my heart. And as a Southern who doesn’t really like fried foods, this seriously sings to my soul – YUM! (Also, yumming!) What a great and healthier version of the original – can’t wait to introduce this to my family!

It’s nice to know that you have a healthier version of this dish – sounds really amazing, Quinn. But I have a question. Can I do this even if I don’t have a crock pot?? 😀 I hope you are having a fantastic time and happy FF. 🙂

Sure just sauté your onions then add the baked steaks and gravy. Simmer for 30-60 minutes. Enjoy

Haven’t had chicken fried steak in a long time! Precisely for that reason you mentioned. Trying to be good to my heart 🙂 But you’ve taken all the worries away with your un-fried version! You’re so good! I’m pinning this so I won’t forget!

Thanks Angie. I wouldn’t call it health food but it is a heck of a lot better than original recipes for Chicken Fried Steak. Have a great weekend. Happy FF!

I haven’t made chicken fried steak in a long time either. Like Angie said, it just wasn’t good for the ole ticker. Your version still looks like everything that I loved about it though. Nice and crispy without being dry.

I love this spin on a classic recipe. I’m certainly the type who just can’t handle heavy food, so I love your lighter recipe. And, the pictures look tasty as well. Thanks for bringing this dish to the fiesta, and I hope you have a fabulous weekend! 😀
